Character Generation and Replacement Characters
5 CHARACTER GENERATION AND REPLACEMENT CHARACTERS
Each player commands two Heretics, individually generated. It is advised that one Heretic acts as the party ‘face’ whilst the other is capable at combat (though two capable combat characters might represent an alternative, direct approach to the compact!).
At the start of the game, each Heretic is generated with normal starting XP (1000).
It may be that a character dies, either due to a player’s choice or because they have run out of Infamy to burn. At this point, a new (plot-appropriate) character is generated to replace them, with the same XP, but the typical 19+1d5 Infamy. Hence, character death will lose you Infamy, but not XP. This keeps the game balanced between players.
Your two Heretics can act independently of one another (though, of course, this may represent more posting). You may choose one Heretic to your protagonist and have the other only make the occasional quip, or otherwise cover their activities in abstract terms. That’s all up to you.
